Sonnenschein Batteries

Batteries batteries batteries!!!!

Where do you start. On our electric golf buggy, we have used a couple of different types mainly as we try to stay local with a lot of our parts.

The best option we have come up with is using the sonneschein 20 and 28 amp/h batteries. Yes they are expensive but the quality is well worth the extra outlay.

With our ST10 Electric golf buggy, there is an extra surcharge to update the buggy to Sonnenschein. The ST30 is standard with the 28 amp/h Sonnenschein battery.

The battery comes with a 12 month warranty compare to most with only 6 months. We have also made our battery trays suit a couple of different size batteries.

We also sell batteries go to the following link for prices.

Electric Golf Buggy ST30

Our ST30 Electric golf buggy is going great guns. When you put so much effort into something its a great reward to see it working so well.

The buggy assembles and disassembles in moments with a maximum weight of the heaviest component 6 kilos.  St30 is great for minimum boot space.

EMG Shannon Demo/ Test Buggy

EMG Shannon’s Demo/ Test Buggy At EMG, we are always upgrading components to further our electric golf buggies performance, reliability and strength. My demonstration golf buggy has two of the latest modifications that will most likely appear within the next twelve months on the production model. We like to test these components for at least twelve months then go through the process of making the components simple to manufacturer. My buggy has a remote control stop/start which seems to be quite good once you get used to the way it works. Refinements are needed as the buggy can run out of distance to the remote control depending on the surfaces. Next step is to incorporate an aerial which I am sure will help overall distance. In saying that the buggy will travel in front of you easily at a 20 metre range which I think is quite acceptable. Before your putt, you can point the buggy in the direction of the next tee off, after putting you can hit the remote and the buggy will meet you half way or you can just send the buggy to the next tee area. The buggy also needs a fourth wheel for uphills as you have to turn the speed up for the buggy to negotiate the hill. When you stop for a shot then go travel to the next shot when you turn the buggy on with the remote, it tends to pull a wheel stand and sometimes it will flip over backwards, which I have done quite a few times. (Lost the father-in-laws set of keys at one time)

The other test project is the top bag support becoming the top handle lock, and also folding over backwards when the buggy is folded down. This will then achieve a shorter buggy. When folded it is shortened by about 150mm and removes one of the plastic handle locks. I had a trial with it on Sunday, and it seems to work well, still small modifications to come, but will be a huge benefit to the Icon MKII. This demonstration electric golf buggy is used over the roughest terrain and generally pushed to the limits, just to ensure our product is always at the top of its game. At Charlestown Golf Course on Sunday it was extremely wet and boggy as it has been raining in Newcastle for the past two weeks. My golf game is a lot straighter now, but, between shots I’m taking all the roughest routes to the next tees and through mud and water and also along the fairways and the hills to make sure my customers will have trouble free motoring while they are playing.

Australian Made, Australian Grown Campaign

Australian Made, Australian Grown CampaignEMG Golf has now joined the “Australian Made, Australian Grown” Campaign.

EMG completely support this, as we are always looking for a new direction in which to show a quality product that is Australian Made.

We do import two items for our electric golf buggies as we cannot manufacture all components, although we modify them prior to installation.

Over the coming weeks you will see our website updated with new photos, text and Australian Made logos throughout.

A classic statement

A classic statementI was searching through the World Wide Web and came across this statement on a website that had gone down the path of importing cheaper products.

“It’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s unwise to pay too little. When you pay too much you lose a little money. That is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing you bought it to do. The common law of business prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. It cannot be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run. And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better.”
JOHN RUSKIN

And then this;

Our years of experience have taught us that John Ruskin was right! In our early days we believed that people would only buy on price but we soon discovered that there were many quality problems with the cheaper articles.

This is why we are keeping our electric golf buggy Australian Made, as we have total control over our product and for the 2 parts that we import they have been thoroughly tested and we have been using them for over 4 years. Okay our buggy is just under $1100 but I know that there is no other buggy from the $600 mark upwards that even comes close to the quality of our Icon MKII.

Battery Care for Electric Golf Buggies

Battery Care for Electric Golf BuggiesOne of the most common questions that EMG are asked, is how long will the battery last and how long will the buggy travel. Our standard battery supplied with our Icon MKII electric golf buggy lasts around 3 ½ years if maintained properly. Our buggy is supplied with a Panasonic deep cycle sla 28 amp/h battery and a 4 amp charger both supplied out of Sydney. If you are purchasing a battery for any type of golf buggy it has to be a deep cycle as they are designed to be drained and then be recharged back to full level after use. A car battery relies on an alternator to keep the battery topped up while in use. Our buggy will do an easy 30 holes on one charge on hilly courses. Golf courses range from 6 to 9 km’s, which our electric golf buggy will travel around 10km’s. It all comes down to charging the battery properly straight after your game of golf.

EMG Electric Golf Buggy Updates

EMG Electric Golf Buggy UpdatesIn the last month EMG has moved workshops.
We are renting workshop space in a new premise shared with Maitland Radiators, on the outskirts of Newcastle. EMG use companies from the Rutherford and Beresfield areas so it works well for improved production and distribution of our electric golf buggies. When in the area, please call in and see us, we are situated off High street (main street Maitland).
EMG Electric Golf Buggies, 75 Lee Street (turn left at Hadley Cycles).
Maitland is one of the major towns for growth in NSW, with a massive industrial estate at Rutherford which is growing at a faster rate that infrastructure can keep up with. Also on the outskirts of all mining production, Rutherford houses mining equipment and repairs and as well a new home centre with Spotlight, Harvey Norman, Joyce Mayne and Gas weld etc. As you can see, Maitland is a community that is growing into a city with all amenities and plenty of industry.

Electric Golf Buggy Ads

Electric Golf Buggy AdsYou have probably noticed that we have had ads in the 2 recent golfer magazines. First add was a tech review in which our buggy was placed in the Electric golf buggy section for Tech reviews for 2009 which circulated throughout Australia. 2nd add circulated around NSW and the ACT. Have to make mention of the second buggy add constructed by the golfer team it looks fantastic. If you mention either of these 2 ads EMG will give you a 10% discount off and free delivery with your golf buggy purchase. EMG now provide a 14 day money back guarantee.

Australian EMG unamed pull apart buggy

Australian EMG unamed pull apart buggyDevelopments on the pull apart parmaker style buggy have gained some momentum. The new shape design from the original prototype which is traveling around in MT Waverly is looking very sharp. As per the Icon MKII its look is, strength “tough” just as aussie designs should be. I have spoke with John in the last week and is extremely happy with the performance even know its a first and a prototype, stay tuned for the launch coming soon.

EMG Gearbox

EMG GearboxIts not often that we get asked where our gearboxes come from as we do advertise on our website that we do import them and we do modify some parts when they arrive. I do explain that EMG have been using this unit for 4 years and they are an exceptional product. 3 years ago we had a few motor problems and we found the source of it, so we used to pull the back of every motor and solder 2 of the contacts. The motor wires were not heavy enough at that stage but we only had minimal dramas with those. With all the buggies we have out there there where only a handful of dramas. They have since redesigned the brush springs and contacts and put heavier wire from the motor to our electronics. All we do when the gearboxes land here is re drill the gear out to suit our 15mm axle as they are designed for 12mm axles.

This gearbox motor assembly is the most efficient i have seen. It has 2 moving parts running in quality bearings with an aluminium housing. From experience some of the cheaper gearboxes have plastic housings and this is where the trouble lyes. The problem with injection molding is that you cannot produce the parts identical, so every gearbox housing is different. The other problem is that they flex when they are in use, so any tolerances they are set up with vary the whole time they are in use. Imagine that in you road car you would be at the mechanics every month.
