The Vintage Golf Course in The Hunter Valley

The Vintage Golf Course in The Hunter ValleyThe Vintage has been host to 2 corporate golf days that I have played. It is a truly expansive course and it is a requirement to use a golf car to travel around the course. Even with the car it takes most of a day to get around the 18 holes.

The Vintage features a 18-hole Greg Norman-designed golf course which
has been ranked among the best golf courses in Australia. The 18-hole
course measures 6,310 metres with a par of 71 and is the only Greg
Norman-designed golf course in NSW that is accessible to the public.

It’s a beautiful course to take in. There is a great variety of scenery and landscaping, lots of natural and man made water courses, huge tree lines and long drives with all different gradients, slopes and vegetation. For a beginner like myself this is a very challenging course, a couple of the water traps are huge dams and you need to hit about 150m clear to get over the pond. The rough areas are generally long grass and its nearly impossible to find the ball if you hit it too far off course.

In the early morning it can be a stunning vista with the fog rolling across the valley and as it lifts you see the expanse of grassy fields, the surrounding vineyards and distant hills.

Beresfield Golf Course

Beresfield Golf CourseWith only 11 holes this is a terrific course to play a quick morning round or a round in the afternoon after work. It’s all pretty flat and easy walking. The greens are fairly well maintained and there are some easy water traps and sand pits to navigate but even a very average golfer would be pretty right because unless you belt the ball into the long grass or outside the boundaries of the course you can be fairly sure to find the ball.

Facilities at the club are basic but adequate and the pro shop is well stocked. This is the only golf course in Newcastle that currently has demo and display buggies provided by EMG Golf. It has also been host to a number of EMG Golf sponsored golf events.

Shannon and I have played a few rounds at ‘Bero’, it’s easy to get to, plenty of parking space, the course fee is cheap and there’s not usually too many people playing so you can take your time or whip through it as much as you like.
