BLOGS August 2010
Recently Peter and I experienced a fantastic golfing holiday in Vietnam organized by Go Golfing from the Gold Coast. It was a very professional & well organized tour. The tour was for 16 days and included 8 games of golf at the following courses:-
Vietnam Golf & Country Club – Ho Chi Minh City
Song Be Golf Club – Ho Chi Minh City
Delat Palace Golf Club – Delat
Novotel Ocean Dunes Golf Club – Phan Thiet
Sealinks Golf Club – Phan Thiet
Phoenix Golf and Country Club – Hanoi
Chi Linh Star Golf and Country Club – Hanoi
King Island Golf Club – Hanoi
There were approximately 60 of us in the group which included non golfers who were also well accommodated for with them having the opportunity of sightseeing while others were playing golf.
This tour included a daily competition for both men & ladies as well as overall winners as well.
We are proud to advise we were able to come home winners with Peter coming from behind on the last day to take out first place by 2 shots / points and I was able to make up 3 shots to finish equal 2nd.
Each time we played golf we were using motorized carts (sorry Shannon – not 1 battery operated buggy was to be seen) and each player had their own caddy. Although sometimes we found the language a barrier the caddies definitely knew how to read the greens to sink that all important putt.
Apart from the golf we also experienced the highlights & low lights of Vietnam which obviously made us appreciate that we do live in a lucky country. Something that stood out clearly was their transport or should I say lack of – basically they relied on the push bikes for transporting goods. One day we even saw a cow being transported. As you know over here we have peak hour traffic – in Vietnam it is known as “stuck hour”. Some days you may not move at all for say 15minutes.
Back to the local scene – Muree Ladies Golf recently conducted their annual championships – congratulations to all winners
Recently some of the golfers travelled to the warmer parts of the state and played in tournaments on the North Coast. No results to hand but have heard some players did play well below their current handicap. Congratulations to all
For now
Good health & good golfing

Wendel’s April Golf Results
Well another month has passed and my month can be described as not my best but satisfying.
As I mentioned in my last Blogs I am making an extra effort to improve my fitness level to then hopefully improve the golf results. To start with it wasn’t a great idea as found muscles I hadnâ used before and the golf results werenâ improving either. In the early stages of the month I felt my flexibility and fitness had improved but then on the down side I lost the timing in my golf swing. I’m sure all golfers at my level can relate to this happening to them. After a few frustrating games, practice on the range, encouragement from my partner, close friends and local Golf Professional as well as self determination that “this game wasn / isnâ going to beat me I have got myself back on track and played some satisfying games towards the end of the month. Like all golfers we have had some very wet weather to contend with as well so course conditions havenâ been the best either. During these times of wet weather the ground staff of all courses are to be congratulated for their effort in maintaining conditions to the best possible each day.
On the social scene of golf I participated in a Ladies Classic event at Pacific Dunes which included golf / lunch & fashion parade. Although no winning results to report it was very enjoyable with the opportunity of catching up with fellow golfers from other clubs that I have met over the years. Sometimes taking the serious sideâ out of the game can actually improve your results as wellI™m sure we have all fallen into the trap of “trying too hard so participating in Open days that many clubs have are very rewarding in many ways as well.
Speaking of Open days Muree Ladies Golf Club are holding their Open day on Tuesday 13th May. EMG have been generous & volunteered to sponsor the day so ladies get your team together and come along & enjoy the day. You will have the opportunity of trying the EMG buggy too.
Good golfing

Wendels March Results
As mentioned in my last Blogs we were traveling to Sawtell for their Easter weekend Classic Event. No winning results to report from myself but would like to congratulate players from Charlestown / Kurri Kurri and Nelson Bay that participated and won prizes. I didn’t come home empty handed – won the nearest the pin on the 7th hole with a shot of 92cm from the pin – got the birdie for those wondering!! A player from Sawtell won the Pro Pin event on this same hole with a “slam dunk†hole in one. It was a very enjoyable weekend and Sawtell Golf Club should be proud of their team effort – congratulations to them for a very well organized tournament.
My pink buggy from EMG golf was admired by many players as well. Many comments were received on the way it was built / how light it was and that it looked strong & reliable.
Playing three days in a row can be very tiring on both the body and mind as most golfers would know – especially if you are struggling to play to your handicap on the day as all golfers strive to do each time they walk onto the course.
This year I have been making a bigger effort to improve my fitness level by completing up to 30minutes 3 – 4 times a week on the exercise bike as well as several stretching exercises to increase flexibility and strength. A local golf Professional has been very helpful in giving advice to improve my game in all areas – both technique and fitness. Like any sport understanding and practicing the correct techniques of the game is a big part but maintaining a good fitness level is also important. Speaking from experience a tired body and mind always leads to disappointing results on the golf course which then can lead to a dint in the confidence level as well – I am sure all golfers can relate to this.
My hard work and efforts have paid off once again this month with another shot off my handicap – the lowest I’ve been since taking up the game. My score cards for the month were “like a rollercoaster†but that’s golf!!
Hope you all had a very safe and happy Easter.

Golf Blogs January 2009
Best wishes to all for a a safe and happy 2009 – hope the year is all you want it to be!
Over the Christmas break I took the time to review some playing statistics of my games for the past 12 months and surprisingly they are better than I thought they would be – unfortunately the bad games seem to “stick around†in your mind more than the good games – for me they do anyway.
Statistics have indicated that on average I have played 4.4 shots worse than my actual playing handicap. This figure was calculated over 90 games that I had played. During this time I can definitely remember some woeful shots and games but overall now that I have seen the statistics I am satisfied and have a goal in place for 2009 to improve on this result. Maybe reviewing your stats may give you some encouragement too that the year was actually better than you thought it was.
Now that the Christmas and New Year celebrations are over it’s back to work for another year and back into the routine of some daily exercise and practice on the golf course to improve on the above results.
For now good luck and happy golfing for 2009

Golfing blogs Wendel Musson November
In October my partner & I took the opportunity to participate in the 2008 Mitsubishi Masters on the Gold Coast. The tournament was conducted by Go Golfing and as per comments in December issue of Pacific Golfer “is billed as Australia’s biggest and richest amateur golf tournamentâ€. This is the 13th year it has been held and I would like to take this opportunity of congratulating Go Golfing on a very well organized tournament. The task of organizing over 800 golfers on 4 different courses each day with morning and afternoon tee times was very successfully completed. Other arrangements Go Golfing looked after were the accommodation / transport to courses and bag security each night.
Golfers from 149 golf clubs were represented from all over the world. The courses we played on were Royal Pines / The Glades / Lakelands and Robina Woods. We also played a Skins game at Hope Island. Congratulations to all winners – unfortunately I wasn’t on the winners list this time but was very satisfied with my effort of finishing in the top third of the field. Having the opportunity of playing on different courses at this level was very satisfying as well as meeting some very friendly people. Following each game there was always at least an hour to enjoy the club facilities and get to know your fellow players each day before the bus transfer back to accommodation at Broadbeach.
On our way home we stopped in to visit family at “sunny†Sawtell and participated in their local competition. AGAIN my pink buggy was a stand out with many comments on the appearance of it – not only the colour but how sturdy it was and the power it had compared to other brands.
To Shannon and Anthony again a big thank you for manufacturing an excellent Australian made product. Your after sales service has also been recognized by many others that have purchased a buggy from EMG.
With the festive season now upon us I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very MERRY CHRISTMAS AND BEST WISHES FOR A SAFE, HAPPY AND HEALTHY 2009
GOOD GOLFING TO ALL

Wendel’s September Golf Results
Firstly my pink EMG electric golf buggy is still going very well and not problems at all to report and I am still receiving compliments of how strong and sturdy the buggy looks compared to others – well done to Shannon & Anthony and EMG for such a great reliable product.
Daylight saving is finally here – some people love it and others hate it – personally I do appreciate the extra daylight hours to spend time out doors after being couped up in an office all day long. I am looking forward to taking advantage of the extra daylight to improve certain areas of my game – practice can make perfect.
With the warmer weather now upon us remember the old saying “slip / slop / slap†– it applies to us gofers too and not just the beach goers – together with plenty of water & / or sports fluids to maintain your energy levels for the entire 18 hole game – nothing more depressing than to be playing well only to fall apart on the last couple of holes due to lack of energy and dehydration.
Most of the courses in the local area have had their greens cored in the last month or so and how the scores seem to have improved – many saying because the greens are easier to putt on !
Many veterans travelled away again in September this time to Mudgee. Again a good time was had by all and favourable results too many locals as well – congratulations to all.
With the competition year coming to an end many annual event results have already been finalised. I am pleased to report for the third year from four I have qualified for the WGA State Medal playoff for First Division in Sydney in November. Due to another golfing tournament I am unable to attend this year – too many golfing opportunities. Good luck to those from other clubs who have qualified –there can only be one winner on the day but still an honour to have achieved the opportunity of representing your club at this level.
For those golfers who play in local competitions using golflink it’s probably a good idea to maintain a record of your own handicap adjustments as well. Recently I was made aware of a player who played to the CCR on the day therefore his handicap should not have changed. When checking golf link it revealed he actually got 0.1 back which is incorrect. There were others that played and although their results weren’t the best on the day Golflink reveals cards were NCR’d. No wonder everyone is wanting a better system.
Until next time good health to all and good golfing

Wendels August Golf Results
As I mentioned in last month’s “Blogs†many golfers from the Newcastle / Hunter Valley area travelled north to participate in Veterans Tournaments at Coolangatta / Tweed Heads, Yamba / Maclean, Coffs Harbour, Ballina and Wauchope.
To date I don’t have a full list of individual results but am aware that members of Muree Ladies Golf Club – Vicki Parker, Anne Purcell and Betty Ritchie all enjoyed some success during their time away.
Betty Ritchie had an impressive 46 stableford points while playing at Coraki – well done Betty. To all other players who participated, congratulations on your efforts and pleased to hear all arrived home safely.
Each year Muree Golf Club holds a 4 person ambrose charity day in memory of John O’Rourke who was a Director of the club and all proceeds go to cancer research. These days cannot be a success without the generosity of sponsors so to all those- a very big thank you. I was part of the winning team with a net 53.5 – thank you to my other team members – Peter Gardiner / Greg Crossman and Jeff Schofield.
Last weekend Muree held their Mixed Foursomes Championships – congratulations to Julie Swanson & John Sullivan on their win. I am pleased to report results indicate I achieved Scratch Runner up with my playing partner Greg Harding.
Yesterday I participated in the NHDLGA 3BBB Par event also at Muree. My team consisted of Kay Scully / Vicki Parker and myself. Congratulations to the girls from Branxton with +9.
No other results to report so until next month good golfing. With the days now longer and weather getting warmer I’m sure all us golfers will be taking advantage of the extra daylight hours to improve our game and achieve results like others above and as usual my EMG electric golf buggy performed outstanding.
Good golfing

Wendels July Golf Results
In July the Muree Ladies Club Championships were held. Congratulations to all those who did participate and win trophies over the 3 rounds. Due to work commitments I was unable to participate in the event – yes for those who know me my work did take preference at this time. That’s the way it goes – there is always another day or next year.
Although work interrupted my week day golf I did manage to play on weekends and was in the winner’s circle on 3 occasions from the 8 games I was able to participate in. My handicap has also stayed consistent which is also very satisfying.
Last weekend I was part of a 4 person ambrose team that participated in the annual RAAF social day held at Greenhills Golf and Country Club at Peats Ridge (formerly known as The Springs) and our team was successful in achieving first place. With a combined handicap of 8.5 we had a net score of 53.5 with all members contributing on an even basis. It is a very challenging course and a big thank you to the RAAF Social Golf club for their hospitality on the day.
Good luck to those “lucky retirees†who will be travelling north to participate in the annual veterans golfing tournaments at Coolangatta / Tweed Heads, Ballina, Coffs Harbour and Yamba / Maclean. Hope the weather is kind and you have a safe and enjoyable time away – think of the workers though please! Something for us younger generation to look forward to in the future. Hopefully I can report some successful results next month.
For now good luck and good golfing to all – especially in the blustering windy conditions that we usually experience in the month of August

Wendels June Golf Results
June 2008 will be remembered as being a successful month for Muree Ladies Golf members who participated in the Newcastle Hunter District Ladies Championships event held at Maitland / Kurri Kurri and Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club.
I was very disappointed with my results on the first day of play at Kurri Kurri and was not looking forward to playing again the next day at Maitland. After some encouraging words from my fellow club members I decided to play at Maitland and am proud to advise won Scratch Runner up only to be beaten on a count back – What a turn around in results! I was also part of the team from Muree that won the Halcyon Cup. Other players from Muree that won trophies were – Wendy Cotton, Helen Bradley, Kay Scully, Vicki Parker, Margaret Hassett, Trudy Kidd and Yvonne Sullivan – congratulations to all. Players from our club in Division 3 & 4 also won the team event for the Barbara Smith Salver trophy.
Congratulations to all those who participated and especially to those from other clubs as well who won major prizes over the 3 days.
Thank you to the clubs for hosting the events and especially the grounds staff who have had very unfavourable weather to contend with over the last couple of months.
Apart from the golf it was a great opportunity to meet new people and catch up with friends “at the 19th hole†to share the highs and lows that have been experienced during recent times both on and off the course.
On Sunday we played at “the Oaks†(Cessnock) with our social group and again happy to come away with runner up in the ladies division. My partner Peter Gardiner also got runner up in the Mens division.
For now good golfing to all

March 2009
Hope you all had a happy Easter !
I planned to participate in the annual Sawtell Easter Classic again however due to unfavourable weather this tournament had to be cancelled – enjoyed the break away anyway catching up with family and friends.
From what I have been told the weather in the Hunter was better than I experienced and many were able to take advantage of the extended break to get the house chores done and fit in a game of golf too.
Golfers from the Hunter travelled to the Blue Mountains in March for a week of golf at all the courses in that region. Although the weather was “not really kind†to them either a good time was had by all. For those who did come home with trophies – congratulations.
My own golf has been steady with satisfying results.
The annual Newcastle District Ladies championships will be held in June so good luck to all who participate in this tournament.
For now good golfing to all
